Howard and Odessa Pitts Johnson founded Johnson Memorial in 1967 and established a funeral business to be perpetuated. Mr. Johnson, a graduate of Rosedale High School was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. He was a Licensed Mortician and Funeral Director; Past Exalted Ruler and Life Member of the Elks Lodge. Mrs. Johnson, a graduate of Dunbar High School and Miles College was a retired Educator. She was a Licensed Funeral Director and served as Family Attendant. Together, the Johnsons enjoyed gathering historical facts of the funeral profession.

Mr. Craig Clark is a Licensed Funeral Director and graduate of J.S. Abrams High School. Serving Since 1986, his experience and invaluable aid in all capacities at Johnson Memorial are greatly appreciated. Craig is a fan of the Lakers and the Colts.

A retired Educator, Mrs. Marion M. Evans is synonymous with the grace and dignity of Johnson Memorial. As Attendant, serving since 1987, she is a member of Top Ladies of Distinction and supports her alma mater, Miles College. This Fairfield native is Trustee at Crumbey Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.

Mr. Michael Nabors, serving as an Attendant since 2008, his willingness to assist families in various capacities offers support and comfort. He is a graduate of Phillips High School and enjoys life with friends through tailgating.

This Fairfield native, Mrs. Laverne Newton Dawson, graduated Fairfield Industrial High School and Miles College. She has been with Johnson Memorial since 2010, serving as an Attendant. Mrs. Dawson provides her unique gentleness, care and genuine concern to families. As first lady of First Ebenezer Baptist Church, she has Christian compassion for all.

Serving Johnson Memorial families as Attendant is Ms. Shelanda Jones. A Brooklyn, New York, native and graduate of Alabama State University with a concentration in Counseling, she is an Usher at Galilee Baptist Church. Ms. Jones has been with Johnson Memorial since 2009. Her hobbies include travel, music and reading.

Mrs. Willie Mae Larry is our exceptional Musician with innumerous years of offering her talent with local churches. Always dependable and willing to lend her service adds another dimension to the Johnson Memorial collaborative efforts to our families.

Ms. Frederica Coleman is an accomplished harpist, having completed studies at Northwestern University. Her musical renditions afford our families a calmness at a most difficult time. She has been dutiful since 2004. Various genres of music, reading and traveling are among her pastime activities.

Barbering is a passion for Mr. Cleo Jones, Jr. He lends his skilled hands to make for a clean-cut presentation. Jones has served our families since 1999. He is a barbering graduate of Lawson State College. His hobbies are the Pittsburg Steelers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Ms. Stephanie Turner Hughes is a Licensed Mortician and Funeral Director. Serving since 1997, this graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service is Manager of Service Operations, member of Old St. Paul Baptist Church and proudly supports the Green Bay Packers.

Howard G. Johnson, CFSP is a graduate of Faulkner University. Howard grew up at Johnson Memorial and now serves as Managing Mortician and Funeral Director. A member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he establishes the high standards of compliance for us to better serve our families. He enjoys college basketball and football.

Brenda K. Williams is a lover of people who became a part of our team of professionals in 2012. Her wonderful persona resonates through interaction with our families. Anointed to teach God’s word as Co-founder of Faith Deliverance Overcoming Cathedral of Prayer, she is mother of three children and an excellent cook.

Funeral Attendant, Derrick Calvin, is a graduate of Vestavia Hills High School and Lawson State Community College. He is a man who wears many hats in service to the community and is a member of Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church. He enjoys cycling and 5k runs. Derrick joined our staff in 2014.

One of our younger Funeral Attendants, serving since 2015, he is dependable and willing to assist families in numerous capacities. Well-educated in theology, Daniel pastors First Baptist Church-Cropwell and aspires to earn his D.Min in the near future.

Mr. Elbert Jones, Sr. is a retired pastor who has a heart for serving others. He operates the Family Development Center at his membership church, Mt. Pilgrim Baptist, Fairfield and has been with us since 2010. This native of Selma is a retired coal miner and holds the esteemed position of Chairman of the Chaplain Corps of UMWA.

Mr. W.J. Maye, Jr. is an invaluable addition to our staff since 2019 offering compassion to our families. He is a graduate of A.H. Parker High School, Alabama A&M, UAB and UA and is a brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is a retired administrator of Birmingham City Schools, former sports official and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mr. James Ware is an alumni of Fairfield High School and Alabama A&M. Serving as an enthusiastic attendant since 2017, he is also Deacon at First Baptist Church-Old Jonesboro and administrator with Bessemer Fire Department.

Ms. Crystal Stantley, is a class of 2006 Woodlawn High School Graduate, University of Montevallo and Ashford University Alumna. Serving since 2013, this Funeral Director loves assisting others. Ms. Stantley strives to keep a smile on her face and enjoys music.

Serving since 2013, Mr. James F. Belcher III, funeral attendant, is a U.S. Naval Reservist. He is a 2012 graduate of Bessemer City High School. His dedication to meeting the needs of each family exemplifies the Johnson Memorial standard of service. Mr. Belcher is a proud member of the 28th Street Church of God.
